Overview

If you’ve served as a government supervisor, manager, or executive for at least a year, it’s likely you’ve gained a variety of experiential leadership skills and lessons. From those experiences, leaders can become even more effective by honing their skills through continual growth and development.

In this course, experienced supervisors and managers can gain a clearer picture of leadership strengths and areas for development. Through small lectures, exercises, assessment questionnaires, and individual feedback, you’ll develop new skills to improve personal performance and organizational effectiveness for greater success.

You’ll be evaluated in several leadership competency areas and receive personalized feedback from several sources, including multi-rater feedback instrumentation, assessment specialists, peer feedback, experiential exercises, and personal inventories. You’ll also receive feedback from Usild instructors on your Individual Development Plans (IDPs).

How You Will Benefit

  •

  • By reviewing your IDP with Usild faculty, you’ll recognize what skills and/or behaviors to develop further, what attitude (motivation) will help you to do that, and what methods you might use to monitor your progress and hold yourself accountable.

  • Identifying Emotional Intelligence (EI) fundamentals will help you demonstrate openness and approachability to employees at all levels.

  • Through recognizing situations that require a change in approach, you’ll be able to adapt using effective approaches to lead and manage change within your agency.

  • Discussing challenges and opportunities with USILD instructors and a cross-government peer group gives you a “best practices” approach to implement insights from your assessments.

  • Developing strategies for managing up and down your organizational chart will ensure you prepare yourself and your team for change.

  • Completing multiple personal assessments and working with a trained executive coach will allow you to take feedback and suggested actions to improve performance:

    • USILD Leadership 360

    • Everything DiSC Management Profile

    • Emotional Quotient Instrument (EQ-i)

    • Change Style Indicator

    • Change Navigator
