Usild Leadership and Competencies Development Certificate Programs

The demand for skilled leaders in the Governments, Corporations, Nonprofit, and International Organizations around the world is greater than ever before.  USILD’s leadership certificate programs are comprised of one and two-day courses with a focused curriculum designed to quickly impart knowledge, skills and competencies that you can immediately use. Courses align with the executive core qualifications (ECQ’s) identified by OPM.

Leadership Certificate Programs are offered at 4 levels:

  • Leadership Training for Aspiring & New Leader Certificate

  • Leadership Training for Supervisors

  • Leadership Certificate for Mangers

  • Leadership Training for Senior Leaders and Executives

You’ll assess your leadership effectiveness, gain core knowledge, and develop critical skills for leadership success, whether for your current leadership role or one you aspire to. Through a combination of core classes and electives, you’ll focus on essential leadership competencies while personalizing your own growth journey to help fulfill your Individual Development Plan (IDP). Each program culminates with a certificate signed by the Executive Director of USILD , formally recognizing your achievement.

Common Questions

What if I'm currently enrolled in or recently completed a LEAD-qualifying course?

Good news - if you’re currently enrolled in or completed a LEAD-qualifying course after October 1, 2019, you can have it applied to your LEAD Certificate Program! Receiving credit for courses taken prior to October 1, 2019, will be considered on a case-by-case basis only. Please contact the LEAD Certificate Program manager at lead@orpe.org to discuss your specific situation.

How long do I have to complete the program?

You have three years to complete all required courses.

Can I take a ULEAD course above the level of my current position?

We don’t require prerequisites for enrolling at various LEAD certificate levels; however, we strongly recommend checking with your supervisor or training manager for specific requirements.

I don’t see a ULEAD Certificate offered at the Executive level. What leadership development programs are offered for executives?

Our executive and senior executive programs (grades GS-15 and above) are offered through the Usild Executive Institute. Learn more about Leadership for a Democratic Society (GS-15 and above) and Usild Leading Cutting Edge (Senior Executive Service).

Can I substitute coursework from other programs to count towards a LEAD Certificate?

Only Usild training programs listed for a given level of leadership will count towards a ULEAD Certificate at that level.

What if I decide I want to pursue a different ULEAD Certificate after I've already enrolled and taken courses?

While we do not limit your ability to change LEAD Certificate levels, we strongly recommend you review requirements, as not all courses qualify across more than one level. You will still be required to complete all courses required for your new LEAD Certificate level. Please contact the ULEAD Certificate Program manager to change your enrollment.

Does it matter the order in which I take ULEAD Certificate courses?

For the best possible learning experience, we recommend you complete core courses in sequential order before enrolling in electives. Electives can be taken in the order you choose.

Can the ULEAD Certificate Program be customized for my agency?

The LEAD Certificate Program can be delivered in a cohort-based format for groups within your agency. While cohort programs are typically completed in one year, timeframes can be established based on your needs. Contact the ULEAD Certificate Program manager at lead@orpe.org to learn more about bringing ULEAD to your organization.
